Float Your Adsense Ads Left or Right Within Your Blog Posts
I have been getting a bunch of emails from people on the the heck I float my Adsense ads to the left or right of the content of my posts. I use this technique quite heavily as I think it is a great position for the Adsense ads to a ton of views, and then of course a ton of hits.
Now this snippet of code is simple little bit of CSS that I thought was common knowledge. But I guess sometimes when you are not coming from a web design background this isn’t so common. Now this bit of code will work on a WordPress blog, and any “regular” website. I am not sure how to implement this code on Blogger, or any of the other free blog services, so my instruction is for wordpress.
First off, here is the code:
<div style=”float:left; padding:5px;”>
[place your adsense code here]
</div>
Now all you have to do is place this bit of code for the page that you want the ads to float to the left or right of the post text. For most WordPress blogs you would place this code directly after the:
<div class=”entrybody”>
You will need to add this code to every page that has a post ie: single post, main index, search results, archives, etc
You can see above the float:left. If you want it to be on the right then change left to right. It’s that easy.
I hate adsense within posts; very distracting.

Ahh Dennis, you may hate them..but they pay the bills!
Not if one unsubscribes before clicking they don’t.
Actually the ones that really irritate are placed above the post…where you actually have to scrrrrrrrroll past the adsense to get to the article you came to see in the first place.
That I really don’t get, unless the author already thinks his/her posts are garbage. LOL

I mainly use this method because of the high CTR’s involved. I am not too concerned about subscribers for my Adsense Blogs because most of them are built to get search engine traffic, and the content is not updated that often.
For my blogs where I focus on providing fresh content and look to build up subscribers, I avoid the “punch you in the face adsense placement.” But for the blogs that have readers that click on and leave its pretty good.
That code can be used for Blogger. But i’m not use the padding 5px code. Greeting, nice knowing your site:).
@Phoenix: Yeah you could drop the 5px padding. I just add that in there in case I decide to test Image Ads as opposed to text ads. With the images, the post text comes right up against the ads which is why I added the padding.
If you are using just text ads, then you really don’t need the padding.
That’s what I find out for blog focusing on Adsense as well. They usually have the ads at the top of the blog post. But does it work?

@Wei Liang: The method above does work (well it also depends on your blog). I like to the above method because it combines having a nice looking design while still showcasing the Adsense ads. I f found on my blogs this method has a pretty good CTR.
Of course I have found that an even better method is too have a large block of text adsense ads before any content is shown. As I discussed above with Dennis, is that this method is not appropriate when you have a blog where you are looking to have loyal readers. This method works best for information based sites, where people have come from the search engines and are continually browsing for information.
