Google Adsense, Heroin and Cherries, Oh My!

I hate the guy who lives below me. Sometimes I get the urge to do something mean things to him, like light his cat on fire. Of course that would only affect the cat; I don’t think he would even notice.

.

You see, the guy who lives below me is a crack head.

.

That’s right a certified, card carrying “junkie jigging” crack head. I live in a pretty nice building, it’s not in the slums or the crack part of town, but for some reason the building has to include one crack head.

.

Right now he is blasting a random assortment of music through his speakers. A combination of styles only a crackhead could enjoy. He started off by blaring some Green Day (which I did not mind) then next came Celine Dion, which was followed by some obscure techno sounding music. He is also an aspiring musician. I am sure at any moment he will pick up his guitar and “rock out.”

.

There are plenty of other things that this guy does to bring on the rage, but really there are just to many items to list. I should really be more patient and understanding though. You see we both have the same job.

.

Sort of…

.

I live in a city that is a haven for homeless people, so I am not sure if this happens in your town. Recycling is growing industry in my city and the homeless and junkies are the biggest supporters. They head from building to building, from dumpster to dumpster picking up pop cans and turning them in for the deposit. The junkie that lives below me does this for a living. Some how he earns his living just 5 cents at a time.

.

Beginning to sound familiar?

.

I am in fact comparing my chosen career as a blogger to the “career” of a heroin addicted junkie. Lifestyle choices aside we basically do the same thing, with one difference; he make more money than I do.

.

google adsense

Living on Google Adsense is just the same as diving through dumpsters for pop cans. There are a few differences. For example, I as a blogger remain clean, however the can collectors actually make money.

.

Perhaps it’s time for a career change.

.

Of course I really should have noticed this earlier. Last week I was chatting with the writer of Blog Blog Cherry about how Google Adsense has really dropped this last little while (boy did I pick a great time to start blogging). I was quickly directed to his blog where he is doing a comparison between Google Adsense and the amount of change he finds on the streets. I highly recommend that you check it out. Start with Day 1 of the experiment: I find more change on the ground than I make with Google Adsense, and keep reading. It’s a real adventure- and a close battle!

.

There are some other great “blog battles” such as Ebay Vs Etsy and Adsense Vs Adbrite, and of course the classic topic: Naked Blogging. Maybe in the future we may see some other versus battles. A little Blog Blog Cherry VS Living on Adsense perhaps?

If you enjoy reading my blog you will more than likely enjoy Blog Blog Cherry.

  1. They always say that there are little difference between drug and internet addictions, so, yeah, your body stays clean, but your mind may not be! haha

Just don’t get TOO addicted to blogging (if you earn a lot of money, you’ll have the possibility to blog less, though =P)

  2. Celine Dion? Wouldn’t have expected that.

  3. great post. there seems to be one crack head per building here in minneapolis too. it has something to do with social balances.

you cant have too many normal people in the same building.

    *sigh*

  4. hey hi Chris…i think its the best post you have made ever since.i enjoyed it a lot.

    tc

  5. hi chris,
If it’s any consolation, you’re in a better situation than where I am now.
You see, I live in a karaoke obsessed country. Everyone thinks that if they buy that karaoke thing-a-ma-gig, they automatically become great singers.

My neighbors just break into a song whenever they feel like it and in full blast. You can read all about it in my site with post entitled “Looks like Christmas”.
    Cheers….

  6. I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Google Adsense, Heroin and Cherries, Oh My!, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

  7. Don’t you dare harm that cat!

I sympathise with you though. At this point Ihave actualy made more money from pageviews writing at Asociated Content than I have from adsense on my blogs. This was a good post thoug!
