Take My Keyword Research Advice: Slap a Guru

Ok so enough about me posting stats. I should really post about something useful. I mean that is why you came here right. To learn something.

Which I find really odd.

It’s been almost a year since I started blogging, and I guess I actually have learned a lot of info, what I can now pass onto you.

Right now I am working on documenting my process of starting a blog. Whether it works or not, well everyone’s blogging experiences are different, so what works for me might not work for you.

Todays post is going to be about keyword research, it is the first thing that I do after I have an idea for a blog. A lot of people seem to think that you need to shell out cash for a guru to tell you what to do, or for some great tool that will get you the best keywords.pulp Take My Keyword Research Advice: Slap a Guru

I say screw it.

The next time you meet up with a keywords guru, just slap him or her right in the face and say “Rank this, bitch!.” Now you are set for keyword research success. Personally I only use 2 tools for my keyword research, both of which are free.

Google Adwords Keyword Tool:

First off, whoever said that Google doesn’t tell you the value of what it pays publishers for certain keywords, needs another slap. To use this tool all you have to do is enter your keyword in the box, type in the captcha and then you will have a big list of related keywords, their search volume, and amount of competition represented by a graph.

From here, if you want you can select the “Show Estimated Average CPC” from the “Choose columns to display” drop down menu. This will show approximately what the publishers are bidding on the keywords.

WordTracker Gtrends:

This is a modified version of the free version of WordTracker that was created for the 30 Day Challenge. All you have to do is enter a keyword and press the ‘Hit Me’ button and you will be presented with a bunch of related keywords.

Once you have done the search you will see a big list, and on the right of this list you will see a column that is marked with a ‘G.’ If you click the graph icon in this column you will be presented with a pop up window that will show you the amount of competing websites, as well as the approximate daily hits that the #1 one spot will get.

Those are my tools. Completely free and totally useful. Now all you have to do is figure out how many competing websites you are willing to go up against vs how many hits the #1 spot gets. Most people say 30,000 competing sites with 100 hits to #1 daily is a good target. If that seems comfortable to you, then go for it. If you want more of a challenge find a site with more daily #1 hits, which will of course have more competing sites.

So I pose a question to you: How do you do your keywords research? Do you know of any other free tools?

If you read this far, then it's probably good enough to share...
